Across the Clwydian Range

A good local walk for the shorter days of November. This is an easy Blue taking in both sides of the Clwydian range on a series of good paths and tracks. The ascent is gentle and is split over two separate sections.

The walk begins and ends at car parking bays on the minor road west of Cilcain.
We continue along the road beyond the parking area to the cross roads and take the track (left) that ascends at a gentle gradient to meet Offa’s Dyke on the main Clwydian ridge. From here we turn south east and follow the ridge for 1.5km over Moel Dywyll, the high point of the day, from where we should have some good views.
We leave the main Clwydian ridge on a small path which descends westwards on a good, grassy route (steep in places, poles recommended) until we reach the spring line on the west side of the ridge. We turn north on the path along the base of the hills. The path swings north east to become a track and ascends to cross the Clwydian ridge again at the pass south of Moel Arthur. From here we continue a short distance along the road to reach an easy track which leads back to the lane and car park.
