A stroll around Ashton Hayes

This is a relatively easy green social walk with the opportunity for a lunch/snack at The Golden Lion - Ashton Hayes community hub. There is an escape route after 6km if you do not want to do the full walk.

Green Social

Wednesday 4 February 2026

2 dogs allowed

We set of east from the car park towards and along Shay Lane, a bridleway. The bridleway was muddy on the recce (14 Jan) with two large puddles to negotiate. At the end of the lane we turn north on to a road and follow the Eddisbury Way. We soon return to fields, then road following the Way until we reach Brines Brow. We will stop here for a break. We resume by turning west following the Baker Way along Grange Road. Until we reach the Mouldsworth/Ashton Hayes road.

For those wanting to do a shorter walk can now take the road into Ashton Hayes and The Golden Lion (overall distance 6.8km 90m ascent).

For the full walk, we cross the road, onto fields, passing behind the church heading for Peel Hall. We then follow the access road away from Peel Hall to a footpath. This footpath has a closed sign on it, although it is in use. There are badger setts with large holes to the side of the path for a short section – an alternative path is available. Passing the badger setts we walk around the SE of Ashton Hayes to the playing fields, then the car park.

The lunch reservation at The Golden Lion is booked for 12:30.

Join the relevant OHWC Community Group to book the walk and/or lunch. When joining the group please state if you are walking or lunching or both.

Lunch orders to be posted in the Group by Sunday 1st Feb. Lunch payment is on the day. Once you have ordered you are liable for payment.
