Tarporley and the Shropshire Union canal circular

Leaving the Rising Sun car park, we stroll through Tarporley village through a field and down quiet roads and lanes until we reach Tilstone Fearnall where we join the Shropshire Union canal. Following the canal to Beeston locks, we return via Tiverton and across fields to Tarporley.

In Tarporley, we walk up Park Road by the side of the Cottage hospital reaching a path across a field to Cobblers Cross Road and then walk down village lanes to cross the A49 and across to Tilstone Fearnall via a quiet country lane.

We join the Shropshire Union Canal to Beeston locks and return to Tarporley via Tiverton and across fields into Tarporley.

The Rising Sun offers good quality and reasonably priced Sunday lunch, and I will book a table if anyone is interested in joining me for lunch.

Terrain:
Flat country lanes, public footpaths and fields which can be muddy in Autumn and some roadside walking. Waterproof boots are recommended particularly if it has been raining.

You MUST carry a completed ICE card (“In Case of Emergency”) and show this to your walk leader on arrival at the walk. Our walk leaders have been instructed ask for sight of your ICE card and if you cannot produce one, you will be unable to join the walk.

Remember you are responsible for being properly equipped

Ensure you have the walk leader’s phone number in case of an emergency and if you become detached from the group STOP, call out; try contacting group by phone or text. If no contact return to the last place you were with the group. Wait 30 mins repeatedly trying to make contact. After 30 mins seek help and/or make your own way safely.
