This is a superb ridge walk over the Carneddau.
We start at the village of Gerlan, Bethesda. Limited on-street parking is available by the former Post Office. We head SW on a minor road which leads to a track over fields before starting the main ascent up the ridge of Mynydd Du. The ascent is very steep in places on grassy tracks before the final push over rocky ground to Carnedd Dafydd at 1044m. We now head East along a superb high level ridge, taking probably an hour to reach Carnedd Llewelyn, our highest point of the day at 1064m. Hopefully the weather will be kind and allow stunning views over Snowdonia and north to Anglesey.
Heading NW along another dramatic ridge we cross Yr Elen then a steep scree descent takes us to easier ground and Foel Ganol. Turning more to the West we cross boggy ground to access our track back to the start.
