Green: Alvanley to Helsby Hill Circular

17 November 10:15-14:15

Alvanley to Helsby Hill Circular 17th November 2019
Grade: Green Number of dogs allowed: None

This is a circular walk from Alvanley village to the summit of Helsby Hill returning to Alvanley village. Carine and Di will be sharing the leading.

There is extensive parking at the White Lion. Meals, snacks and drinks will be available on our return.

Leaving The White Lion we walk through the village of Alvanley turning NE walking over open farmland to join the North Cheshire Way. We join the Lonster Trail and travel NW steadily climbing uphill to enjoy extensive views from the top of Helsby Hill towards Liverpool and the Mersey.

We stay on the Lonster Trail in NE direction as we make a fairly steep descent through woodland and turn N to arrive on the outskirts of Helsby.  After passing through a quiet housing estate we return to open farmland and travel S following a stream (it may be muddy here). Eventually, we meet a quiet road which takes us S to Commonside. We re-join the Lonster Trail and make our way back over open fields to Alvanley village.

Sorry, no dogs due to livestock on the route.
