Bryn Alyn slopes, Moel Findeg and Maeshafn

Some lovely views from the tops below Bryn Alyn if the weather is good, and some very pretty woodland stretches too, including the Moel Findeg nature reserve and Big Covert ancient woodland.

No dogs allowed

We head east from the layby, and skirting the north slope of Bryn Alyn to reach a slightly easier ascent, we climb up to a point below the east side of the hill. We loop round across the moor and through some woodland towards the north-east. When we reach the Owain Glyndŵr pub we turn west across Moel Findeg towards Maeshafn, then back towards our starting point, heading south through the Big Covert woodland.

Terrain:
Generally easy walking on good paths, although the first quarter of the route is steadily uphill. There is a section mid-walk with a succession of stiles in poor repair – they are solid but missing steps, so need to be climbed over! Likewise one very large fallen tree. There may be a few cattle around.
