From the Rising Sun we walk down the High St. behind the church to join a footpath which leads to the bye-pass. We are now in open country with good views of Beeston Castle in the distance.
We join the Sandstone Trail which leads us the Shropshire Union Canal.
We will stop for coffee by Wharton’s Lock. We follow the canal to Tiverton village. We walk up the A49 to the Townfield Lane footpath. This path is very overgrown with bracken and nettles. Long trousers are advised.
When we reach Birch Heath we cross the bye-pass again then join the High St. and find our way back to The Rising Sun.

Terrain:
Very flat. Minor roads, footpaths, tracks, tow path and fields. No significant muddy areas on day of recce. Some of the fields are uneven. Some tracks are overgrown.
