Do not walk if you are feeling unwell. Carry your own hand sanitiser. In case of an emergency ensure you have with you a face mask and first aid pack.
Inevitably, the route will go through gates and over stiles that other people will have touched. It may have narrow sections that mean you will be passing close to other people.
We set off south down the A49 for 500m before turning and skirting the new housing estate as we head towards Beeston Hall Farm. We turn down the farm approach road crossing Dean Bank lane then across fields until we come to a crossing footpath. Here we turn to the west aiming for Beeston. Our route now takes us through the village along Moss Lane, Peckforton Road and Tattenhall Lane until we reach the Sandstone Trail. The Trail takes us north, skirting under Beeston Castle, until we reach the Shropshire Union Canal. It’s now the final leg, along the towpath to the A49 and the start point.
The lockgate Café is a popular venue serving tea/coffee, cakes and lunch. Mulled wine (non-alcoholic) and mince pies will also be available.
When you book the walk, please let the walk leader know if you intend to visit the café. If you wish to have lunch, please let the walk leader know your selection (see the menu on the Lockgate Café website). Once you order is submitted to the lockgate Café (on Wed 28 Dec) the lunch must be paid for even if you cannot make it to the Café.
The Lockgate Café has a capacity of 34 inside and a further 20 outside.
