Self Guided
30 May – 6 June 2026
Following the success of our weeks in Glencoes and Loch Tay, we are again doing a DIY holiday in June 2026 this time travelling to Ireland to the Macgillycuddy Reeks.
This is a DIY holiday. You self book. You decide what you want to do. Go walking hills or lower levels with others, or do a bit of sightseeing or chill out as the mood/weather dictates. The choice is yours. The week is being coordinated by Steve and Jan
Join the OHWC Community Group for the holiday to register your interest. As of 20 July, 13 people had booked accommodation.
Kenmare, our chosen base, is located on Kenmare Bay, with rolling mountains as the backdrop and colourful streets lined with charming restaurants and shops.
MacGillycuddy Reeks is a sandstone and siltstone mountain range in the Iveragh Peninsula in County Kerry, Ireland. Stretching 19 kilometres (12 miles), from the Gap of Dunloe in the east, to Glencar in the west, the Reeks is Ireland’s highest mountain range, and includes most of the highest peaks and sharpest ridges in Ireland. Near the centre of the range is Carrauntoohil, Ireland’s highest mountain at 1,038.6 metres. The range was heavily glaciated which carved out deep corries (e.g. the Eagle’s Nest), U-shaped valleys (e.g. Lough Coomloughra), and sharp arêtes and ridges (e.g. the Beenkeragh Ridge).
Sections of the Kerry Way are close by as is Killarney National Park. Kerry County Council has published an interactive map of Trails.
The pics are from 2004 when the Club last walked in Kerry.
