Blue: Man Tor via Cavedale from Castleton

15 March 10:15-14:45

Man Tor via Cavedale from Castleton March 15th 2020
Grade: Blue Number of dogs allowed: None

Cavedale, Mam Tor and Hollins Cross are the highlights of this Peak District walk from Castleton. The walk includes both Dark and White Peak walking. Hopefully the ridge over Mam Tor will give us excellent views over Edale Moor and the Kinder Plateau.

After leaving the carpark we head SW out of Castleton past the imposing ruins of Peveril Castle, one of England’s earliest Norman fortresses built by Henry II in 1176, along the Limestone Way through Cavedale Gorge for approximately 3km. We then head NW for 2.5km before bearing NE for the final 0.5km push to our high point, Mam Tor. We carry on in this direction 1.5km to reach Hollins Cross.

From here we head SE for around 2km back into Castleton Visitor Centre and our start.
