This is one of my favourite local winter walks, including part of the Sandstone trail and its highest point at Rawhead (227 metres). There may be some muddy sections but these should be manageable and if it is a clear day, we will have excellent views across the Cheshire plain.

This circular walk starts at the Sandstone Trail car park at the Candle Factory in Burwardsley. We walk along a quiet lane, past the Pheasant Inn, and then down through the woods towards Beeston. When we emerge from the woods we walk along another quiet lane, with good views of Beeston castle. From here we head towards Peckforton and then up to Bulkely Hill wood, before joining the Sandstone trail and following this to Rawhead and on towards Bickerton. Just before we reach Bickerton we head across to Coppermines lane and return to Buwardsley along tracks and quiet roads.
