Newsletter Summer 20

We hope you’re all still keeping safe and well and now, as lockdown restrictions are easing, we’re hoping you’re looking forward to meeting up with OHWC friends for some group walking again in the near future…albeit in a ‘new normal’ way. Following our recent zoom Committee meeting, here’s a summary of our discussion:

Re-starting the walk programme (a new one – not the original)

As you may know, other walking groups, including the Ramblers, are beginning to organise walks again, in a limited way – maximum 5 people plus a leader – and we feel we might be able to restart our club walks on a similar basis.  Pauline is contacting all our walk leaders to see if any feel willing and comfortable about volunteering to lead a walk with a small number of people.  If enough leaders are happy to restart (obviously, no-one is under pressure to do so) the committee’s view is that initially walks should be weekdays only to avoid crowds and busy car parks at weekends, and that walks should be reasonably local as car sharing is not possible.   There would be a clear rule that no-one should go on a walk if they are unwell or have symptoms of Covid 19.  We would like to restart walks towards the end of July or early August, if possible.

What are your thoughts about starting club walks again?  Please email me!

Charity Walk

We can’t meet together to walk and BBQ this year but we’d love you to commemorate the date (19th July) by doing a walk of your choice and making a donation to our two nominated charities – Stroke Association and Cancer Research UK.  You don’t need to walk on the exact date (Sundays are usually busier), anytime around that weekend is fine.  And please take a photo and send it to James so we can build up a gallery of all the different charity walks done!  Donate on-line a/c number 30310344, sort code 20-20-46 , specifying ‘Charity Walk’ in the subject line, to make it easier for accounting purposes. Many thanks.

Holidays

Just to let you know that Sarah is still dealing with HF about cancellations/rebookings/refunds etc due to Covid 19.  It’s a slow process, she’s still waiting for documentation from HF.  Please bear with us!

Old Hall Country Club – proposed changes

Those of you who are also Old Hall Country Club members will be aware that there are very significant changes being proposed and we are wondering if this will affect our connection to the club.  The Committee feels that there is no pressing need to consider the affiliation at this stage but we will keep abreast of developments.  We are, in effect, an autonomous organisation, but we do benefit from recruitment and car parking provided at Old Hall.  There would be a major administrative burden involved in pursuing an alternative path, affecting not merely the constitution, but more significantly, our travel and banking arrangements.  We will, of course, keep this under review; we welcome your comments about this.

 On behalf of the Committee,

Best wishes  to you all and we hope to see you soon!
